The type of plant Sideritis sp. (Athoa - Clandestina - Raeseri - Scardici - Euboea - Syriaca), widely known throughout Greece with the common name mountain tea is an herb with many therapeutic properties.
Perennial, native shrub of up to 50 cm, belongs to the family Labiatae (Lamiaceae). Its leaves opposite, fluffy, slightly toothed. The bracts are relatively large, feature-shaped sharply-pointed and exceeds the flowers. Located in stony and rocky places at high altitudes.

Widely consumed in Greece for the manufacture of beverages and because most of the plants consumed comes from native populations are threatened with extinction. The part of the plant is collected in full bloom inflorescence with 5-6 cm stem. The flowering shoots dried so that they can be maintained for long time.By Hippocrates who recommended it as a tonic because of its high content of iron, so that Dioscorides considered powerful shield against the cold and so far we know about the anti-hypertensive, antioxidant, antithrombotic activity, as for the rich content in flavonoids that alter the circulatory and cardiovascular systems, mountain tea remains the most popular Greek herb. The Tea Mountain belongs to the family Labiatae (Lamiaceae) and the genus Sideritis. It is found wild in most mountainous and hilly parts of the Mediterranean but there are several species in Asia.Mountain tea drink it as hot beverage (pour boiling water one to two twigs and leaves from 3 to 5 minutes to bring out the aroma and therapeutic substances) or cold (after leaving to become a hot beverage, we expect to cool slightly and beat in a shaker with ice cubes. Serve plain, honey, or honey and lemon). The Tea Mountain is ideal for those cold days of winter and heat of summer, refreshing or warming our bodies and fortifying our health.Unlike the much-Green Tea, a plant rich in caffeine which is the alternative therapy as idaiteros addictive and harmful to the body, in combination with various chemicals and pesticides which dipped to arrive from Asia to the West, making it a little toxic bomb. The reputation of green tea is due predominantly to the global engine promotion and advertising of a harmful (eg colas, tobacco), or partially harmful waste (eg black tea, coffee) product for profit. Certainly the Green tea contains several other beneficial ingredients but negated by my previous comments.
Pharmaceutical properties: The active ingredients of the tea is caffeine which is a stimulant of the nervous system, but there are traces theobromine diuretic substance and acts on the respiratory system. The fresh leaves are quite rich in vitamin C. The infusion of the plant is used as a digestive, diuretic and digestive disorders like brain stimulant and muscle. Furthermore accelerates respiration. The long but using large doses of tea may cause slight poisoning manifested by insomnia, weight loss, loss of appetite and nervous system problems. The prepared concoction called "mountain tea" has many beneficial properties, due to constituents of the essential oil, as for example in flavonoids. The decoction of the plant is much preferred by the Greeks, especially during the winter months, due to the beneficial effects of colds and infections of the upper respiratory system, qualities enhanced by the addition of honey. The beneficial effects due to anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic and antioxidant activity. Even considered efstomacho, diaphoretic, tonic, anti-irritants and antianaemic because it contains Fe (Floca et al1981). Only recently discovered another pharmacological property of tea.Prevent the onset of osteoporosis.Tasting the brew is very tasty and aromatic, and can be eaten hot or cold, with sugar, honey or plain.
More and more research indicates the miraculous properties of the Greek mountain tea and its contribution to the fight against Alzheimer's disease that causes degeneration of brain cells."For seven years we experimented with 150 plants and herbs from around the world, China, Thailand, Indonesia," says Professor of Neurology at the University of Magdeburg and Celebrated director of the Research Center for Neurological Diseases, Jens punk."Seeking information on the internet learned about the properties of Greek tea and decided to get it in 2010," says a German professor, "with impressive results."In particular, the administration of the mountain tea in mice for 25 days reduced swelling in the brain by 80%.
